History
In 2008 Matchroom Sport launched an exciting new concept that has revolutionised boxing as televised entertainment. Prizefighter is the name and the concept involves eight hungry fighters competing in a blood and thunder tournament which completes all on the same night.
Featuring up-and-coming fighters as well as seasoned veterans, each boxer will pair up in four three minute round quarter-finals with the winners meeting in the semi-finals and then the final.
Prizefighter has been the most ground-breaking boxing innovation of recent years and that is reflected in huge viewing figures in the UK and abroad. It also serves as a superb showcase for fighters as many have used their Prizefighter success to launch assaults on British, European and World titles.
Initially starting out with the heavyweight division and subsequently moving up and down the weight divisions, Prizefighter has delivered some of the most thrilling rounds of boxing seen a British ring for years.
Plans are in the pipeline to take the Prizefighter concept international and feature some big name non-UK combatants in the event for the first time. Matchroom Sport are building the Prizefighter concept into one of the most formidable brands in combat sport and as they say, ‘no guts, no glory!’.
