History
Matchroom Sport first produced televised pool with the European Pool Masters in 1993. That event evolved into the World Pool Masters and following stagings across the UK and Holland, it has now taken place in Las Vegas since 2008.
The following year, in 1994, the inaugural Mosconi Cup took place in the UK. Devised as a Ryder Cup style event between teams from the USA and Europe, since 2003, the Mosconi Cup has taken place on a ‘home and away’ basis.
Every other year it runs at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas and in alternate years it takes place in Europe where it has been staged in London, Holland and more recently Malta.
The World Pool League, an event produced for the Polish television market ran from 1998 to 2006 and this was replaced in 2006 by the World Cup of Pool. The sport’s premier team tournament, the World Cup now takes place in the Philippines following events in the UK and Rotterdam.
For a nine year period – 1999 to 2007 – Matchroom Sport promoted and televised the World Pool Championship, staging the event in Cardiff, Wales for a five year period and then Taiwan and the Philippines.
Matchroom are currently responsible for nearly 70 hours of pool programming on an annual basis, available live or delayed and are a world leader in televised pool programming.
