History
Matchroom Sport is the world's largest producer and distributor of televised poker, creating more than 200 hours of original content every year. It all began on the Isle of Man in 2000 with the launch of the inaugural Poker Million event that boasted a record first prize £1 million and saw the game’s biggest names flocking to compete. Today, FullTiltPoker.com Poker Million is in its ninth year and remains one the world's most prestigious tournaments.
Since then Matchroom Poker have continued to produce groundbreaking events and shows such as the World, European and UK Opens which are now in their fifth seasons.
As the poker market has continued to grow, so too has Matchroom's portfolio of events. The PartyPoker.com Premier League is TV poker's highest buy in tournament, with a league format that features 12 of the biggest personalities in the sport.
The PartyPoker.com Big Game is a raw 48 hour cash game that this season incorporated player walk- ins and live evictions. 2009 saw the introduction of two new properties. The first was the FullTiltPoker.com Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge, where young poker sensation Tom "Durrrr' Dwan faced off in million dollar heads-up matches that made the poker world stand still.
The PKR Heads Up Grand Slam became Europe's most prestigious one against one tournament, with a knock-out style format featuring the world's biggest names including Tony G, Devilfish, Tom Dwan, Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly and Peter Eastgate. Away from the screens, Matchroom Poker continued to break new ground with the launch of The Poker Show with Jesse May, a weekly radio podcast which has become the hub of online poker entertainment. At the recent European Poker Awards 2010 in Paris this was cited as one of the key influences in Matchroom Sport’s victory in the Innovation for Poker category.
