History
Following on from its inaugural run out in June 2008, Matchroom Sport’s Premier League Bowls event has consolidated its position as the UK’s most innovative bowling tournament as the second edition took place in April 2009.
Initially taking place in the UK at Potters Leisure Resort in Norfolk, but now taking place in Cyprus, the Premier League features six of the world’s best flat green indoor bowlers who have qualified via rankings as well as through winning major tournaments.
The Premier League Bowls is played under the auspices of the World Bowls Tour (WBT) to the rules of bowls, the promotional body of the three major world bowls associations.
PLB is full of innovative features including the Power Play concept which enables a player to double his points in any nominated end. The visual look of the event also sets it apart from the field.
Bowls is one of the UK’s most well organised grass roots sports with over 300,000 participants competing on a regular basis at over 350 dedicated bowls clubs in UK. It has gained increasing credibility as a TV sport in recent years and the Premier League aims to take the game to a new plateau.
