Phil "The Power" Taylor
THE greatest player ever to throw a dart, Phil has claimed an incredible 15 World Championship titles throughout a glittering career that shows no signs of slowing down.
One of the greatest British sportsmen of all time, Taylor has relentlessly dominated a sport that has seen prize-money levels increase dramatically over the past decade.
A protégé of five-time World Champion Eric Bristow, Taylor exploded on to the scene at the end of the 1980s, and picked up his first major title at the 1990 BDO World Championship with a 6-1 thrashing of his mentor.
He added the 1990 World Masters title before picking up a second World Championship two years later in one of darts' greatest matches against Mike Gregory.
Since the formation of the PDC in 1993, Taylor has completely ruled professional darts and picked up a staggering number of titles, including the Premier League on four occasions.
All in all Taylor has won no less that 66 professional televised titles including the aforementioned 15 World Championships, 10 World Matchplays, nine Grand Prix, five Las Vegas Desert Classics and four UK Opens.
Taylor's place in the record books has also been assured after he hit the first live nine-dart leg on Sky Sports during the 2002 World Matchplay - a feat he repeated in both the 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 UK Open as well as the 2007 International Darts League.
A legend whose sporting achievements have been compared to the likes of Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods and Roger Federer, Taylor was unbeaten for two years in a televised match from 1999 to 2001 and won every major ranking title in an incredible run of success during 2009. Away from the oche, Phil is married to Yvonne and has four children and two grandchildren. He lists his hobbies as playing poker, walking the dog and playing snooker.
