RONNIE Alcano will begin the defence of his World Pool Championship title against Saeed Ahmed Al-Mutawa of the UAE.
Alcano (pictured right) became World Champion last November in the first time the tournament was held in his home country of the Philippines.
The biggest pool competition of the year, which will now be played in a winner-break format, returns to the same country and will be held at the Araneta Coliseum, Manila from Saturday, November 3 to Sunday, November 11.
A total of 128 players from around the world will be competing for the $100,000 top prize. The opening round is now double elimination with 16 groups of 8 players with four advancing from each group into the knock-out phase.

- There are currently 118 players named with the remaining nine places to be filled by players that perform well at the qualifying events in the week before the main event.
- There will be more qualifying spots available if any of the other players withdraw from the main tournament
Group phase
Saturday, November 3 to Tuesday, November 6
- 16 groups of eight players, winner break, double elimination, four from each group will advance to the Last 64
- all matches in one group to be played on two tables on the same day.
- There will be eight tables. Table 1 is the main TV table, table 2 is the secondary TV table.
- All group matches are race to nine, Last 64 and Last 32 are race to ten, Last 16, Quarter-finals and Semi-finals are race to 11 with the final being race to 17.

- Sunday, November 4 - Groups 7, 8, 9 and 12
- Monday, November 5 - Groups 2, 5, 10 and 14
